Recommended Self-Leveling Sealant For Sealing an RV Vent and Roof

Updated 10/20/2026 | Published 10/19/2026

Question:

Messaging has worked in the past so maybe it will again. Can you recommend a caulk to seal the roof of my 2021 palomino slide in camper? I have a very small crack of the roofing material next to existing sealant around a vent?

I sure can Brad and welcome back. I recommend the Alpha Systems 1021 Self-Leveling Sealant item # AL98KV. This white sealant is designed to work on rubber, fiberglass, and metal roof membranes.

The Alpha Systems item # AL98KV is a self leveling sealant made of butyl rubber. It's designed to seal cracks, vents, windows, trim, and anything else mounted to the exterior of your slide in camper. It'll definitely fill in that crack but I highly recommend removing any loose existing sealant around the vent. You'll then want to clean the sealant left with mineral spirits and let it dry before applying the item # AL98KV.

We also have the white Self-Leveling Sealant item # AL98KV in black item # AL48KV, gray item # AL68KV, and beige item # AL78KV. Please note these sealants take 48 hours to fully cure.

How's flat towing going with the Blue Ox Patriot item # BLU37TR we talked about in the spring? Feel free to answer this and throw in any other questions you have, where it says Add Comment.

Alpha 1021 is great stuff. I have used it to seal cracks around roof top fixtures and it performs perfectly.

I used the self leveling sealant around some vents on the roof and it has worked well. Use latex gloves and have paper towels handy.

I only use Alpha Systems because it is low VOC. All others irritate my sensitivity to chemicals but this stuff I can use myself with no problem. My only critique is that it takes long to cure but it has worked well for me.

If you have a tear in the roof material there are different ways to deal with it, in my experience. Firstly, do you know if the roof material is the Alpha brand TPO roof membrane or something different? The Alpha TPO material is a thermoplastic so if the tear has a flap still attached, you can use a heat gun to soften the material and it will stick to itself, kind of like a weld. Then you can put the self leveling sealant over it. Alpha has instruction videos on how to do this on their website. You may also consider patching it with the Alphabond tape, just be sure the area the tape sticks to is clean and dry and then you can use the self leveling sealant around the edges of the tape for extra protection. Also instructions/video for this method on Alpha's website.
