Does Ratchet Strap Position Matter with Erickson E-Track Wheel Tie-Downs?

Updated 10/19/2026 | Published 10/17/2026

Question:

I’m looking at the “Erickson E Track Tie-Down Kit w/ 2 Ratchet Straps with Roller Idlers and 2 Wheel Chocks”. The intended use is to tie my GoldWing Trike down in my Ironhorse trailer. Does it matter which side of the tire the ratchet is on? I’ll put the wheel chock in front of the tire and I think I may have to put the ratchet in front also because there may not be enough space after of the tire. Of course, after would be easier, so that probably won’t be an option available to me.

Hey Jimmy, thanks for reaching out. Yes, you can absolutely position the ratchet in front of the tire with the Erickson E-Track Tie-Down Kit # EM58523-09162. The ratchet doesn't have to be behind the tire for the system to work properly. The important thing is having the strap centered over the tire, with the E-track properly secured on both sides.

For your GoldWing Trike, I like this setup because it secures the tires without putting unnecessary pressure on the suspension. You can keep the wheel chock in front and position the ratchet wherever you have the most room, as long as the strap maintains the proper angle and clears the chock.

Are you planning to use these on both rear tires of the GoldWing, or one rear tire and the front?
