Hey Yves, thanks for reaching out. The Dutton-Lainson StrongArm Electric Winch # DL25046 has a weather-resistant housing, so it can be mounted outdoors, but I would not leave it completely exposed to rain and snow year-round. The housing helps protect the internal components, but the winch is not fully waterproof. Dutton-Lainson also specifically warns against operating it in the rain or when wet.

If you're planning on leaving it mounted outside permanently, I recommend the Dutton-Lainson Vinyl Winch Cover # DL24051 to help keep moisture, dirt, and debris out when it's not being used. I'd also keep the electrical connection protected, unplug it when not in use, and use a GFCI-protected outlet.

Are you planning to mount this on a boat trailer, boat lift, or something else that stays outside?

I've got 3 of these in unheated / dirt floor sliding door 'barn' airplane hangars for many years here in Chicagoland 10f, or lower - still works I think you'll be fine as long as you can keep the winch DRY unplugging it when not in use seems like a good idea
