Question:

Hi, I have a 2015 Mazda6 and am looking at purchasing the CURT C11356 Class I 1-1/4 hitch receiver along with the Hollywood Racks Destination 2 Bike Rack HLY94FR. Can you confirm that the HLY94FR is approved for use with the C11356 Class I receiver? I want to make sure the rack is compatible with a Class I hitch, not just that the 1-1/4 shank physically fits. Ill be carrying a Trek Dual Sport Gen 4 weighing approximately 29 lbs. Thanks!... Also, are there any promo codes or student discounts? I would plan on buying this tomorrow. Thank you!

Hi Zachary,

Yes! The Curt Class I Trailer Hitch part # C11356 is compatible with the Hollywood Rack Destination Bike Rack part # HLY94FR. Because the bike rack fits a 1 1/4" or a 2" hitch (if you use the included adapter for a 2") it will for sure work with the Class I 1 1/4" hitch receiver. Hitch accessory compatibility is determined by the tongue weight/tow capacity of the hitch and the actual size of the hitch receiver itself. Because the bike rack has a 1 1/4" shank and the C11356 has a 1 1/4" receiver it will fit perfectly. The Curt trailer hitch is also rated for 200lbs of tongue weight and 2,000lbs tow capacity which is more than enough to handle the weight of the bike rack and your bike. The rack itself is only 20lbs and with the Trek Dual Sport weighing 29lbs, you're looking at 49lbs of weight in the receiver and the bike is 6lbs lighter than the Hollywood rack's 35lb per bike limit.

I did like a video showing the rack on a Kia Optima, we didn't have a video of it on your model of Mazda but at least you can see what it'll look like on a sedan. I haven't decided yet, but probably taking it to a shop. One shop told me it would take 2 hours though!

@ZacharyH Installation time can vary depending on how much labor is involved in getting the hitch installed and how much experience a shop has. For the Curt hitch, I would say 2 hours is possible, but it doesn't require the bumper being removed, drilling, or dropping the exhaust to install it, it bolts straight to the frame which makes it an easy install. We rank the difficulty of installing hitches and this one is only rated 3 out of 10. For someone who's never done an installation before I would say it could take 1 to 2 hours because the hardware has to be threaded onto a fish wire to get it seated.
