Question:

Im ordering a C22MJ. Id like to get some of the prep work out of the way before the kit comes. The install instructions and video describe widening the access hole, but I didnt see or hear to what dimension is required for the hardware to pass. Can you confirm? Thanks.

Hey Bryce,

That is a great question!

The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C22MJ uses a standard 1/2" - 13 x 1-1/2 carriage bolt that has a head diameter that ranges from 1 1/16" or 1 3/32". Also, because the spacer blocks used for this hitch are 1" wide x 3" long, I suggest widening the hole in the frame to around 1 1/8" or 1 1/4" wide.

I've linked a video showing the Curt Trailer Hitch part # C22MJ being installed on a 2026 Subaru Crosstrek so you can use it for reference to see what it looks like. Our tech widens the frame holes staring at the four-minute mark.

What are you planning on using your new trailer hitch for?
