Updated 09/24/2026 | Published 09/22/2026

Question:

I have a Thule bike rack that fits into my trailer hitch. The is 1.25 and the hole is 3/8. Will the Thule snug tight hitch lock fit?

Hi Shelley!

The Thule Snug Tite Hitch Lock and Anti-Rattle Device # THSTL2 was designed to work with 2" and 1-1/4" hitches, but that 3/8" measurement you got is a little weird. I don't think Thule ever made a 3/8" pin for their racks, but a 1-1/4" hitch should use a 1/2" pin (which is what this includes).

Do you happen to know which Thule rack you have?

I mention the size as 3/8 bolt i have now in use but looking for the anti rattle threaded type. Im hoping that the snug tite is universal. I ordered the 1/2 inch diameter from Curtis but it wouldn't go through the Thule 1.25 hitch it was too big.

@ShelleyG That is going to be due to Curt using a different thread pattern than Thule. They use a fairly unique thread and I have not found anyone else that uses the same one in my now over a decade of doing this. The only 3/8" pin Thule has ever used (at least to my knowledge) is the # 853-5210-02. However, this was not used at the hitch connection and was for holding the arms up on hanging racks (like the Goalpost and Parkway). All 1-1/4" hitches use a 1/2" pin for accessories. The Thule Snug Tite # THSTL2 follows this sizing for the pin as well.
