I am considering purchasing a Rack’em Fitz All ladder rack RA-28 for my 4x6 enclosed utility trailer by Pan American. Will this rack system work on my trailer? I know I will need to lower it so the bars are not so high. Any other modifications I might need? Thanks! JW

Hi John,

There is an installation note for these that the trailer must have rain gutters for the Rack'em Fitz All Ladder Rack part # RA-28 to be properly installed. The rain gutters are required because the gutter area typically has a structural header behind it that provides a strong mounting point for the rack. If your trailer doesn't have rain gutters, you can potentially still install it, but you'll need to verify that there's a steel/aluminum header or other structural framing behind the upper wall where the mounting plates will attach.

When it comes to shortening the uprights, I wouldn't shorten it any more than 5". When we've installed the Rack'Em ladder rack here that's how much we trimmed off and it was pretty much the max that can come off. Most people remove around 3" to 4.5" from the uprights to get it close to the top of the trailer.

What are you planning on carrying on the new ladder rack?
