Full Flat Towing Set Up For A 2003 Honda CR-V LX

Updated 09/17/2026 | Published 09/12/2026

Question:

Hello, Can you provide me with a complete, custom flat-tow package for a 2003 Honda CR-V LX 4-cylinder, 2.4L that will be flat towed behind a 2023 e450 Thor Quantum LC25. Can you also verify compatibility and put together a cart with the necessary parts? Please ensure the package includes: Base Plate Kit: Compatible with a 2003 Honda CR-V LX. Tow Bar: Compatible with the base plates and matching my motorhomes 2x2 receiver size. Safety Cables: Rated properly for the weight of the CR-V approx. 3,250 lbs. Tow Vehicle Wiring Kit / Diodes: A diode wiring kit like Roadmaster or Blue Ox to tie the RV lights to the CR-V taillights. Supplemental Braking System: Permanently installed proportional braking system. High-low hitch adapter to keep the tow bar level Battery charge: since the Hondas ignition must remain in the Accessory I position during towing. Please add any additional items that are missing that would be required for this setup. Please email me the itemized quote or cart link! Thank you for your assistance.

Hi David!

I can definitely help with that and I have everything you are looking for below:

Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms # 1541-5
etrailer SD Non-Binding Tow Bar for Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plates - RV Mount - 6,000 lbs # e74ZR
*Includes the safety cables
Roadmaster 4-Diode Universal Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles - 7-Way to 6-Way Coiled Adapter Cord # RM-15267
Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-156-25
Demco Stay-IN-Play Duo Flat Tow Brake System for RVs w/ Hydraulic Brakes - Proportional # SM99251
*You will need the Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay Kit # RM-88400 for the braking system to run properly

The only thing I can't recommend yet is the high-low adapter. That will all depend on how high the base plate is once it's installed (measured from the ground to the center of the attachment arm) and the height of the hitch on your 2023 Thor Quantum LC25 (measured from the ground to the inside top of the receiver opening). Just keep in mind that you have 3" up or down to still technically be level when flat towing. If you find you have more than that, just let me know and I can find one that will work for you.

Where are you planning taking your CR-V once it's all set up?

My Wife & I have installed this particular tow plate on two different Honda elements, a 2005 which we currently tow behind our 29 ft Bigfoot class C and previously we had a 2006 Honda Element that we towed behind the same motorhome. The installation is mostly straightforward after you get the parts removed from the vehicle. The 2006 install went together as per the instructions without a hiccup. The install on the 2005 Honda required a trip to Tractor Supply® to get four, grade 10 bolts to replace ones in the hardware package that were not long enough for the location they needed to be installed. The Honda CRV and the Honda Element from 2003 till about 2007 had pretty much the same unibody frame with a few slight differences so you may not have a problem with any of the bolts. Overall very happy with the unit. It's very sturdy, easy to connect and disconnect and if I want to take the inserts out, it does provide a very clean look on the vehicle front without them.

@Steve Thanks for the heads up on those bolts! I hadn't heard that happening before and it's definitely good to know! ^___^
