Question:

New Subaru 2026 Outback, Limited trim. Seeking options for loading two 40 pound, 10 foot kayaks. Senior couple, so lifting is getting more difficult. Have seen recommendations for Hullavator. Best option? Approved for new Outback model? Alternatives? Thanks

Hey Steve.

When it comes to bringing two kayaks with you there are several options to choose from, if you're looking at the Hullavator route which I recommend, you'll need two Thule Hullavator Pro # TH898. These are going to be what makes lifting the kayaks onto the top of the vehicle a breeze and holding them in place. Now, when it comes to mounting these, you're going to need 60" crossbars because each hullavator uses 28-1/2" of space. The Yakima HD Crossbars # Y01157 are going to have plenty of weight capacity to carry the load and provide the slight overhang necessary for the Hullavators. Next up, the TimberLine Towers # Y33TR, these will clamp to the factory rails and provide a base for your crossbars. Lastly, the HD Bar Adapter # Y03541 to mount your HD crossbars to the towers.

An alternative solution would be the Malone LowBed MicroSport Trailer # MAL52FR. There is no lifting kayaks above your head, it's easy to get them on and off the trailer. But you're now pulling a trailer.
