Troubleshooting etrailer Jack e55ZV With LEDs That Don't Turn Off All The Way
Updated 09/08/2026 | Published 09/05/2026 >
Question:
I bought a 5000 etrailer trailer jack last year. It works fine, but I just noticed today that the jack led light array is on dimly. If I turn switch to on the lights brighten, but when I turn it off the six little led lights dim but dont go out. What is going on? Disconnecting and reconnecting from battery doesnt change the consequences Thanks.

Hey Dale, thanks for reaching out. What you’re describing is not normal operation for the etrailer Electric Trailer Jack # e55ZV. With the light switch off, those six LEDs are meant to be completely off. The jack only has the main 12V positive and ground connections, and the light is controlled by the switch built into the jack housing.
Since disconnecting and reconnecting the battery changes nothing, I suspect you have a small amount of voltage leaking through the light switch or internal wiring. LEDs take very little current to glow, so even a tiny amount of leakage can make them stay dim while the switch is off. I’d check the power and ground connections first and make sure they are clean and tight. If those check out, the light switch or internal light circuit is the likely problem. The # e55ZV has a 2-year warranty, it looks like you are still within the warranty window so at that point I suggest pursuing a warranty replacement. If you want to do that just let me know.
Where do you usually keep the trailer? At home, in storage, or camping without hookups?

Thanks. I'll look at the possible grounding situation. I keep it in outside storage with a cover over the jack, removing the batteries for trickle charging in my garage. I attach the battery ground feed to the negative post of the battery(s), not to the frame. Would this impact it?Didn't have this problem last year. If the light switch is defective, can I just replace that switch? I don't want to return the entire jack for repair if possible. By the way, maybe it's a typo, but my initial inquire included the wording "5000# etrailer trailer jack, not "5000 detailer trailer jack" You might want to change that so I don't look like an idiot. Thanks.
