Blue Ox Patriot brake keeps on flashing red after setup. Controller says reposition brake unit, I have done that multiple times. Arm goes out, comes back flashing green to red every time. frustrated

Hello Bill,

I completely understand your frustration, especially after repositioning the Patriot multiple times and getting the same error. In my house this could have caused a wrench throwing =)

I would give the setup one more try. Make sure the Blue Ox Patriot # BLU37TR is sitting flat on the floor and the driver's seat is moved forward just enough to contact the back of the unit without putting pressure on it, then run the setup again.

I see you have a 2024 Jeep Wrangler entered in our fit guide. Is this the vehicle you are working on? If so, and you are still getting the reposition brake error, you will want to add the Seat Stiffener for Blue Ox Patriot Braking Systems # BRK2503. We have seen this repositioning issue come up with Jeeps, and the seat stiffener gives the Patriot a firmer surface to brace against during setup.

Hopefully that gets rid of some of the frustration! Where are you planning on taking the Jeep once you get everything working?

@BillB- I just got back from a 20 day trip towing my Jeep Wrangler with the Blue Ox Patriot. One time setting it up before taking off I experienced what you are having the same issue. I noticed that when I turned on the power, my brake unit was touching the seat with a tiny bit of pressure. I moved the seat back a half inch, so the Patriot unit was not touching the seat. There was a half inch gap of not touching. I unplugged the power. Let it sit like that about 20 seconds. Plugged it back in. Hit the power button. Set up light blinked like it was supposed to. Hit the set up button, it did it's cycle and it was ready. My fix was to just not have the Patriot unit touching the seat. Hope this helps you out. Happy towing to you, Chris M

I made my own seat stiffener and had no initial problems . During my last trip of 7500 miles I had to stop 3 times to reset my unit by unplugging the power . I got a fault on the inside display. My biggest problem was I had to set the sensitivity so low that it would not brake unless it was an emergency stop. If I did not the brake would engage without warning on rough roads .

@BlyP Thanks for sharing this, Bly! Having to stop three times during a 7,500-mile trip to reset the unit definitely sounds frustrating. I’m glad you were able to play with the sensitivity and find a setting that worked better on the rough roads. I really appreciate you sharing what you ran into!
