Does a Tow Dolly Require a Brake Controller to Activate the Brakes

Published 07/25/2014

Question:

I want to pull a tow dolly with electric brakes with my 2003 Holiday Rambler Neptune RV. Do I have to install a controller in front and run wires all the way to the tow dolly?

You will need to install a brake controller in your 2003 Holiday Rambler Neptune RV to control the brakes of a tow dolly like the Roadmaster Tow Dolly part # RM-2050-1.

For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller part # 90885. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup.

Depending on how your RV is equipped, you will need to do some hardwiring and will most likely need other parts. If the vehicle already has a trailer connector with a brake output circuit, you can use a brake controller wiring kit, # 5506.

If you need to add a 7-Way connector, use installation kit # ETBC7. I have included some links that will help with the installation.
