How Do I Remove Wires From A Spectro Stackable Quick-Connect SWC60010-1?

Question:

How do I get wires out of this connector in order to replace frayed leads? I cant seem to find a way to split the connector open. There is a note on one side that says “for disconnect use only”

Hey Randy, thanks for reaching out. The Spectro Stackable Quick-Connect # SWC60010-1 does not split open to release the wires. The contacts are crimped onto the wire first and then pushed into the plastic housing, where a small spring/tab locks each terminal in place. To remove one, disconnect all power, look into the mating end of the connector, and use a small terminal-release tool or very thin flat pick to depress that retaining tab while gently pulling the wire and contact out the back. Do not force the housing apart.

Also, the “for disconnect use only” marking is not an instruction for taking the connector apart. It refers to the electrical use of this style of connector and generally means it is a disconnect, not a circuit breaker or switch for interrupting a live high-current circuit. If the leads are frayed right at the crimp, I recommend replacing the damaged terminal along with the wire rather than trying to reuse the old crimped contact.
