Will the Dexter A-60 Brake Actuator Fit My Stratos 294XL Boat Trailer?

Updated 08/21/2026 | Published 08/18/2026

Question:

Im looking for a trailer coupling that goes to my bassboat trailer. I have a Stratos 294XL and this is the original trailer. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Im needing to buy and have shipped immediately if you have what I need.

Hello Greg,

Thanks for writing in!

It looks like you already found the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator # DEX94FR, and this is a great option if your original Stratos trailer has a UFP A-60 style actuator with hydraulic drum brakes (if you have disc, you need a different one). I don't have schematics for your specific Stratos trailer to verify exactly what was installed from the factory, so I don't want to tell you it is a guaranteed fit based on the trailer model alone.

If your existing UFP A-60 outer housing is still in good shape, you may not even need to cut it off. You can remove the inner member from the # DEX94FR and install it into the existing UFP A-60 housing. I've actually done this swap on my own Ranger boat trailer.

When installing the inner member, I find it easiest to start at the rear. Remove the spring washer and pin while keeping your hand underneath so none of the hardware falls out. Slide the rear of the inner member into position first, reinstall the pin and spring washer, and then move to the front and secure it there.

One thing I ran into on mine was the connection at the bypass solenoid. I initially used an adapter from a local automotive store, but ultimately changed the brake hose so I had fewer connection points and fewer potential places for a leak. If you run into the same issue and need a new hose, just send me the length of your existing brake hose and I'll be happy to find one that works.

Can you confirm whether your current actuator is marked UFP A-60 and that you have hydraulic drum brakes? Also, do you have a fishing trip/or tournament coming up that you're trying to get the Stratos ready for? I dabble in some local tournaments here in Missouri at Lake of the Ozarks and Mark Twain Lake, still chasing that double digit fish though!

worked great for me... had some adjusting to do for the hard line to meet up with the fitting for the fluid.. id keep the old fitting on the end of the unit to make sure its the right sized hole you need...
