Im looking for a 2 hitch for my 2007 Honda Civic Coupe EX, and was just wanting to confirm the custom one you have available is in fact compatible. I also wanted to know if it comes with all mounting instructions so I can install myself. Thanks.

Hey Alison!

Yes, the EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver # 306-X7233 is a confirmed fit for your 2007 Honda Civic Coupe EX. It gives you the 2" receiver you're looking for, and the only modification required is some minor trimming of the lower fascia.

The hitch does come with all of the hardware and installation instructions needed to install it yourself. Since the EcoHitch mounts behind the rear bumper, though, the installation is more involved than a typical hitch and requires removing the rear fascia. We have an installation video on a 2008 Honda Civic that should give you a good idea of what the process looks like before you decide whether you'd like to tackle it yourself.

If you'd prefer an easier installation, the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11391 is also confirmed to fit your Civic Coupe EX. It requires enlarging some access holes but doesn't involve the same bumper removal and fascia trimming. The tradeoff is that the Curt only has a 1-1/4" receiver, so the EcoHitch will give you quite a bit more flexibility when choosing accessories.

Your installation video shows for a sedan, which is structurally different from the Coupe, and is lacking the large tow point loop that is right where you show the hitch to come out from the bumper. This is the main thing I am concerned about.

@AlisonS I totally understand your concern, especially since the video shows a Sedan and your Coupe has that tow loop in a different area. I double-checked the manufacturer’s fitment and installation instructions, and the EcoHitch # 306-X7233 is specifically designed to fit both the Coupe and Sedan models of the 2007 Honda Civic. The manufacturer uses the same installation instructions for both body styles, so that tow loop on your Coupe will not prevent the hitch from fitting as designed. I apologize that our video doesn't show the Coupe specifically, since that definitely makes the fit less obvious. The hitch will still require removal of the rear fascia, lowering the exhaust, trimming the heat shields, and some fascia trimming during installation.

@AlisonS Hey Allison. I have had very good results using the hitch on my 2010 Honda Civic Sedan. Fits perfect. I'm an old guy very experienced in working on automobiles (proverbial shade tree mechanic).?? I highly recommend this unit and manufacturer. However, I'm glad I had the pro's install. The Honda makes it a little quirky to install without a lift and equipment. The muffler heat shield has to be modified and hangers placed and adjusted to suit. The pro's I used had trouble with this. I had to return and have adjustments made; which they did and I haven't had trouble since. Btw, these guys I used were very experienced installers; just giving you a heads up on possible problems. Once you successfully install, this is one of the top shelf units. No problems. Honda is not great for carrying the large loads. 100 lb tongue weight. Hope this helps.

@C_S Civic Sedans and Coupes are structurally different, and I'm saying this as a mechanic, and I've done a lot of work to my vehicle. And I don't have to worry about my exhaust or heat shield, both have been removed recently. It's only being installed for a cargo basket so I can move around large totes easier, as they are difficult to lift over my trunk opening.

Hitch took a little extra time to install due to the facia and heat shield alterations but once in place has been very stable and secure.My main reason for purchasing was to install a bike rack to haul our mountain bikes. The combined weight of the rack and bikes is about 130 lbs which when combined with wind resistance causes the vehicle to struggle on occasion.

@MikeJ That makes sense, especially on a Civic. In my experience, on a small scale it should still be fine but I'd be hesitant to take the bikes on a long distance trip with that combo because it could lead to transmission issues down the road (ask me how I learned! haha). How often do you get to take the bikes out?
