How Much Clearance Does The GE Appliances RV Mini Refrigerator GE28FR Need On Each Side?

Question:

Replacing a built-in refrigerator in my Scamp 5th wheel. How much ventilation/room do I need around this model?

Hey Al, thanks for reaching out. The GE Appliances RV Mini Refrigerator with Freezer # GE28FR needs a minimum of 2" of clearance behind the refrigerator, 2" above it, and 1/2" on each side for proper ventilation.

Since this refrigerator is designed as a freestanding unit, those clearances are important. The condenser relies on airflow around the cabinet to remove heat. If it's installed too tightly in a built-in opening, it will run hotter, cool less efficiently, and the compressor will have to work harder.

If you're replacing the built-in refrigerator in your Scamp, I also recommend leaving a way for warm air to escape from the cabinet, such as an open space above the refrigerator or a vent. That extra airflow will help the # GE28FR cool more efficiently and extend the life of the compressor.
