Do You Have To Use A Full Axle When Installing The Timbren Silent Ride Suspension TSR3500S04?

Updated 08/17/2026 | Published 08/11/2026

Question:

Question, you make a single axle suspension upgrade to remove leaf spring system for 2 3/8” axle. which shows leaving the complete axle as a whole. Can you cut the axle tube long enough to use with the U bolts with a stub exposed and make your trailer now an independent system? thanks

Hi Larry!

That is a very good question. I wasn't sure so I reached out to Timbren directly to make sure I was getting you accurate information. Basically, they said the Silent Ride Suspension for Single Axle Trailers w/ 2-3/8" Round Axles - 3,500 lbs # TSR3500S04 should only be used with an axle going all the way across the trailer. Having just the stub of the axle being secured, they cannot guaranty capacity or structural integrity of the system, so I don't think I would go this route.

I know it's more expensive (by quite a bit), but the Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension - Standard Duty - No Drop - 4 Bolt Flange - 3,500 lbs # ASR3500S05 is the better option when wanting independent suspension. This one includes the spindles and was specifically designed to be used in the manner you are wanting.

Are you just wanting to replace an axle or are you building a trailer?
