Updated 04/17/2025 | Published 04/14/2025

Question:

I am looking to put new bunks on my boat trailer. What type of wood would you recommend? I need a 10 foot bunks, but I see you dont sell them that long. Online some say use treated and some say dont . Thanks

Hey Steve! What kind of boat do you have? The untreated southern yellow pine used in CE Smith bunk boards is one of the best possible options and what I recommend. This is highly resistant to decay and bugs. It also has a high resin content which helps it dry quickly, perfect for applications like bunk boards. We don't have a 10' length but what most people do is get two pairs of the CE Smith Carpeted Bunk Boards for Boat Trailers - 5' Long # CE27820 and put them together.

Thanks for the feedback. I have a Alumacraft 165 classic. Between the brackets there is a 9' 6" span do that is why I need a 10ft board. I will try to look for them locally. What about Cedar? Thanks

@Steve cedar isn't the best for strength. I think there are better options for sure.
