Installing A Trailer Wiring Harness On A 2027 Kia Sportage Hybrid

Updated 08/13/2026 | Published 08/06/2026

Question:

I just bought a 2027 Kia Sportage Hybrid. In the hybrid model I dont believe there is a normal battery per say. Where would you suggest connecting the power under the hood? Any concerns with warranty. My dealer was no help at all with any information.

Hi Roger, congrats on the new car!

To get the Curt Powered Tail Light Converter with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C59236 installed on your new 2027 Kia Sportage Hybrid, you will definitely not be attaching anything to the battery. There is a designated jump-start terminal inside the engine bay’s fuse box (driver's side). You will want to connect the 12v power wire for the # C59236 directly to the positive post instead of the actual battery. So it's a slightly different procedure than normal, but only a little.

And as long as everything is installed properly, there will absolutely no concerns in regards to the warranty. Basically, someone has to prove without the shadow of a doubt that the part you installed is what caused a warranty issue. This is the basis of the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. So you are perfectly fine to install this.

Are you wanting to use this for towing or powering the lights on a rack/carrier?

I just installed this in a 2026 Sportage Hybrid and it finally works fine I had an initial problem in ID the turn, brake, tail light wires. It was operator error. Then since I was on my back under the car threading then wire to the front and across to the right side wasn't as easy as the video. But once all done works fine. For the positive lead to the front battery it is easy. For the hybrid there is a post under the battery cover to be used for a jump start. you can see it in U tube videos. There is a bolt there to take out and use the supplied ring connector to fasten the wiring harness connector. I watched etrailers video on fastening the harness to a 25 Sportage to get the idea. Wire colors are different on my car. I also had a flexible plastic rod to thread down on both sides to tape the wires to and pull up. Same for the front though not quite as easy. Hardest part is pulling out the tail lights. They dont come easy the first time and you dont want to break them. Used many words to do it. Be sure any young kids aren't around to listen.

@MikeH Haha! So it sounds like a helper might be a good idea, but probably an adult. Got it. ^___^ What are you using the wiring to power?
