Looking for Cushioned Weight Distribution Shank to Use with Weigh Safe Weight Distribution System

Updated 08/06/2026 | Published 08/04/2026

Question:

Hi, I currently have a Weigh Safe True Tow Heavy Weight Distribution Hitch and would like to use it with the BOSS 16K Torsion-Flex Hitch with a 2½-inch shank SKU: GH-1115. I have a 2024 Ford F-350 single rear wheel and will be towing a Brinkley I-275 travel trailer with an approximate 1,100-pound tongue weight. I wanted to see which size you would recommend for my setup. My understanding is that I would need to purchase a 2-inch shank from Weigh Safe so it can be used with the BOSS hitch. Based on my measurements, I was thinking the 7.5-inch might be the best option, but I’d appreciate your recommendation before placing an order. If there are any other considerations or recommendations for my combination of truck, trailer, and weight distribution hitch, I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Hey Jerry, it sounds like your goal is to use a Gen-Y cushioned setup with your weight distribution hitch to improve ride quality. I actually have what I think is your best solution with the Gen-Y Torsion Weight Distribution Shank # 325-GH-1102 which is a cushioned shank that fits a 2-1/2 inch hitch directly without needing an adapter and is compatible with the head of your Weigh Safe system. This also has a tongue weight range that will work with your Brinkley as well. What do you think about this route instead?

The weigh safe true tow weight distribution does not use the standard two inch wide weigh distribution bracket, it uses a one inch bracket. I was looking at the Gen-Y Torsion Part Number: 325-GH-1125 to connect to the weigh safe two inch shank Part Number: WS49RR. Wanted to see if this setup would work.

@JerryS I see what you mean. Sorry about that I should have known better about the Weigh Safe shank. Its like the only one that's different. But to answer your question yes you can use the part # WS49RR with the part # 325-GH-1125 like you asked about.

Can you confirm that I've selected the correct weight rating and drop length for my setup with the Gen-Y Torsion hitch? Also, are there any limitations on which adjustment holes or positions on the Gen-Y hitch I can use to attach the Weigh Safe weight distribution hitch?

@Jerrys The # 325-GH-1125 does have the needed capacity for your setup. It can do a drop of 7.5 inches which you had mentioned was what you needed but if you aren't sure what drop you need you would need to take some measurements to verify. Height from top of your hitch opening down to the ground compared to the lower coupler lip measurement down to the ground is amount of drop you need. Since you are using a WD system you'd want to also factor in the amount of drop you'll run for it as well.

After having one, I sold it soon after, it moves the hitch connection so far back, the amount of leverage on the hitch is crazy. Not to mention it rode terrible. Talk to Gen-y about it, when I called they did zero testing with it. I have a 40’ 12k with 1500lb of TW for reference. I went back to the equalizer 16k alone with out the Gen Y and could feel how bad it was with there hitch. Hope that helps
