Question:

I am possibly changing my flat tow car. I currently have an e472R tow bar rated for 6,000 lbs. Will this work for a 2023 Ford Escape hybrid which has 3566 curb weight? I also plan to use the Blue Ox base plate BX2694 and Blue OX patriot braking system. I think I will need the Blue Ox BX 8848 towed vehicle wire kit and RM-156-25 Road Master Battery charge kit. Are these the correct products for this tow vehicle? I also think I need a power source for the Patriot system. What would you recommend if so?

Hey Ron, thanks for reaching out. Sounds like you are on the right track here. The # e472R tow bar will be plenty strong for towing your 2023 Ford Escape Hybrid. Even with fuel and gear you won't be close to exceeding the 6,000 lb rating. Then the BX2694 Blue Ox Base Plate # BLU92CR will be a good fit for your Escape and will pair perfectly with your # e472R tow bar.

The Blue Ox 4-Diode Universal Tail Light Wiring Kit # BX8848 will work great. You'll also need a 6-pin plug for the front of the vehicle, and a cable to connect to the coach. We have both those parts in a kit # BX88206 if you don't have them already. Also, the Charge Line Kit # RM-156-25 will be required to keep the battery topped off.

To power the braking system, you'll need the 12 Volt Outlet Kit # RM-9332 for a constant 12v power source. The Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay Kit # RM-88400 will also be required to prevent the towed vehicle's brake signal from overriding the turn signal from the RV when applying the brakes during a turn. That will cover all the main components.
