Looking for Trailer Wheel and Tire in 14 inch Size that Won't Stick Out Past Fender

Updated 07/29/2026 | Published 07/25/2026

Question:

Hello, I have a homemade utility trailer that needs new tires. The current tires are 195/75 R14. They are wider than the wheel wells which are 8 inches wide with a downward edge they are just top guards and do not wrap around the tire. I think the current tires are for a car, not a trailer. I worry about them extending beyond the wheel well. Do I need narrower tires or not? Anything smaller seems hard to find with the 14 radius.

Hey Ruth, welcome back! Yeah your suspicions are correct and what you have currently is a passenger vehicle tire on your trailer. Now with that said the standard 14 inch trailer tire sizes are wider than 195 so since yours is sticking out past the fenders that makes me think you actually have a passenger vehicle wheel installed on the trailer as well. Trailer wheels have a zero offset and it sounds like your offset is pushing the wheel out too far. So a new wheel and tire combo like the part # KE75EV would be a great option. This is a 14 inch wheel and tire with the size 205/75-14.

Do you have any pictures of the wheel and tire setup currently?
