Question:

InfiniteRule Trailer Latch Lock for Stamped Demco eZ-Latch Trailer Coupler - 2-5/16 Ball Regarding product above, I have a boatmate trailer with the coupler that is squared off with a flap on top. Not the traditional round ball shaped coupler. I need a sturdy locking pin as the prior one from harbor freight keeps breaking apart. My ball size is 2 5/16. Above product says it’s for stamped demco ez latch. Can you explain what that is so I can determine if this will work for me? Thx.

A Demco eZ-Latch coupler is a specific style of trailer coupler that automatically latches onto the hitch ball when you lower it into place. Rather than using a traditional manual latch, it has a flat, rectangular top with a hinged flap, which sounds very similar to what you're describing on your Boatmate trailer. The InfiniteRule Trailer Latch Lock # IR66FR is made specifically for that style of coupler. I can say these will be stronger than most locks, these locks have a shear strength of 42,000 lbs from the strength test done on the product.

If you don't mind me asking two questions: What's causing the locks to break? and What style of boats do you launch?

Thanks. To answer the questions you asked, I don’t know what’s causing them to break, however, after a long haul towing the boat (600 miles), the inner workings of the locking head came apart. I assume the vibration and pressure from normal towing was the cause and/or not a high quality product might be the cause. As for the type of boat, I tow a Nautique wake boat, 4900lbs on a boatmate trailer. Thanks for your help.

I have had this lock for about a year with about 12 trips on a 20 ft cargo trailer and have had no problems at all. One must always keep in mind that locks only keep honest people honest. They are similar to good fences in that regard.

I have had this lock on my equipment trailer and haul very heavy loads with it. It is an 18000 pound equipment trailer. After many trips I have had zero issues with it. Not sure why your equipment keeps failing, I have had many different trailers and many latch arrangements. Really have had no issues other then the weather getting to them. Lock-ease could be your best friend keeping the lock and latch lubricated. Especially in a water environment.
