Question:
Hello, I purchased a Blue Ox BWX1003 weight distribution hitch when I purchased my trailer. I recently purchased a 3/4 ton truck and need the 9 hole shank BWX4002 to lower the ball I think one hole lower than the original shank that came with my hitch. Will this model work or do you feel I can get away with using the next shorter range Gen-Y? Thank you!

Hello Michael,
Thanks for writing in, and congrats on the new truck!
Since you've moved up to a 3/4-ton truck, it makes sense that you need a little more drop to get your trailer back to level.
If you'd like to stay with Blue Ox, you'll want the Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution Shank for 2" Hitches with 9-Hole Adjustment # BXW4002. That will work with your BWX1003 weight distribution hitch and gives you the additional adjustment range you're looking for. This is for a 2" receiver, if you have a 2 1/2" receiver, you will also need the Gen-Y Hitch Reducer Sleeve - 2-1/2" to 2" - 5-1/2" Long # 325-GH-007.
If you're interested in adding some ride quality to your setup, the Gen-Y Torsion Weight Distribution Shanks are also worth considering. The shorter # 325-GH-1102 or the longer # GY98NR are both designed to accept standard weight distribution heads like your Blue Ox. The built-in torsion system helps absorb some of the road shock before it reaches the truck and trailer, which can make for a smoother towing experience. You asked on the 2 1/2", so both of these options are for a 2 1/2" receiver.
Since you mentioned you think you only need to go one hole lower than your current shank, the # 325-GH-1102 may be all you need. If you end up needing additional drop, then the # GY98NR would be the better choice.
To know for sure, I'd like to verify one measurement. If you can measure from the ground to the top inside edge of your truck's receiver while it's sitting level and unloaded, along with the height from the ground to the bottom of your trailer coupler while the trailer is level, I can tell you exactly which shank will put your hitch at the correct height.
What kind of trailer are you towing? And what size receiver do you have?
