Looking for Replacement Wire Rope Cable for Fulton T2625

Published 07/22/2026

Question:

I have a Fulton T2625 winch on my boat trailer and need to replace the cable as the original is kinked, flattened and frayed. I am confused on the various types of cables on your website. My existing cable is 1/4inch in diameter and 25 feet long. The 1/4inch cable on your website is rated for less capacity than the 3/16inch diameter version. You also have a 7/32inch diameter x 50foot version but I only need 25. What was the rating for the original cable from Fulton? The boat is a 24foot Sea Ray Sundancer. Thank you.

Hey Kevin, yeah some of the 25 foot wire winch cables have counter-intuitive capacities based on their diameters like with the Curt C52ZJ rated at 4,300 lb and the Dutton Lainson part # DL24100 that is 1,400 lbs. A lot of this is due to fact these are made by different companies but mostly it's that the Curt cable has it's rating listed as it's break strength and the DL is listed by it's safe work load limit. So in reality they are actually rated the same.

But I did find that your Fulton was rated for 2,600 lbs and since you have a 1/4 inch cable currently you would want the part # DL24100. What kind of boat do you have?

Sea Ray 240 Sundancer. Looking at the boat specs. and allowing for fuel water, batteries, misc. gear, etc. it is in the 5200-5300 lb. range. The boat manufacturers typically specify a winch that is rated for half the total weight of the boat since a good portion of it is in the water when loading it on the trailer. It looks like I will order the DL24100 cable.

@KevinE that's a nice boat! Yeah the 50 percent winch capacity thing you mentioned is accurate for wood bunks without a lot of winching distance. You can stretch it further if you have roller bunks.
