What Air Conditioner Can I Use to Replace My Dometic Duo-Therm?

Updated 07/24/2026 | Published 07/19/2026

Question:

I have a 2006 Newmar Ventana with a Duo-Therm 630515-321 rooftop ducted unit on it. It does heat and cooling. Im looking for the simplest replacement unit, preferably that uses the old thermostat as I dont intend to replace the second unit. Which unit do you recommend?

Hi Ronald,

If you're wanting to replace your Dometic Duo-Therm with a unit that can work with your current thermostat, the only option I have for you is the Furrion Chill HE Replacement for Coleman Set up part # FR32PV. The FR32PV is one of the only units left that uses the old refrigerant R410a since they converted to R32 after a law change in 2024. Any new AC unit from 2024 and on has R32 refrigerant, which due to its sensitivity to heat manufacturers had to rewire their control boxes and plugs for safety. This makes all new units incompatible with air conditioners made prior to 2024, even if the plugs are the same, the wires are oriented differently, and it can cause the motor to burn out. The Furrion Chill HE part # FR32PV is rated for 15K Btus and has a built-in start capacitor to help reduce its energy use when starting. However, this air conditioner is cooling only.

The only cooling and heating air conditioners we have use the new R32 refrigerant and will require a total system replacement that will not work with your current thermostat. In that case, I would recommend upgrading to the Furrion Variable Speed Chill Cube w/Heat Pump part # FR67TQ. This a ducted unit is rated for 18K Btus cooling and 17K Btus heating and built-in soft start. Instead of a thermostat this unit uses a 'Follow Me' remote that senses the temperature wherever you're at. So you can adjust the temp from the remote, but it also acts as a thermostat without having to run wiring and install another thermostat in the wall. If you prefer to have a wall mounted thermostat, you can also use the part# FR59TQ which is the same AC unit but with the remote and thermostat.

What kind of temperatures do you typically go camping in?
