Recommended AC Unit w/a Heat Pump for a Motorhome

Updated 07/09/2026 | Published 07/05/2026

Question:

I have a 2004 Bounder Diesel pusher. I would like to upgrade my A/C units to new R32 units. My current controls are mounted in a control cabinet above the passenger’s seat. Both units operate from a single thermostat. It is a 12volt T-stat. Can I operate the new units from this thermostat? Or will I need to mount a t stat for each unit in close proximity of the unit. The problem I see is how to run the stat cable from the unit to the wall location with a foam filled ceiling. Please let me know your thoughts. Thank you

Hey Glenn, welcome back! The GE Appliances Deluxe Plus RV AC System item # GE34RR is not going to be compatible with your existing thermostat. Each system does require their own dedicated thermostat. The thermostat doesn't necessarily need to be mounted super close to the AC systems but definitely in the same room/area.

With a foam ceiling you'll want to try to fish the thermostat wiring from your existing AC or run the wiring on the inside of your motorhome.

Another option is to install two of the Furrion Variable Speed Chill Cube RV AC w/ Heat Pump & Ceiling Assembly item # FR87TQ in black or item # FR77TQ in white. These have a wireless remote and don't require a thermostat at all. There's also controls built directly into the air distribution box.

What brand of AC units are you replacing?
