Question:
I have the Curt 16K 5th wheel hitch and I have purchased a 2026 Chevy 2500 short bed. I would like to put in the Curt X5 5th-Wheel Base Rail Adapter Plate for EZr Double Lock Gooseneck Trailer Hitch. Will that work on my truck?

Hey Barry,
Thanks for your question, and congratulations on the new truck!
The Curt X5 5th-Wheel Base Rail Adapter Plate for EZr Double Lock Gooseneck Trailer Hitch # C16220 is designed specifically for the Curt EZr Double Lock Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch with Installation Kit - 30,000 lbs like # C65HR. It is also compatible with certain other aftermarket gooseneck hitches that use a release handle located near the wheel well. However, it is not compatible with a factory OEM puck system or OEM gooseneck prep package.
If your truck does have the factory OEM prep package, the better option would be the Adapter Rails for Curt 5th Wheel Hitch - Ford and Chevy/GMC Towing Prep Package # C88KR. This adapter drops directly into the factory pucks and provides industry-standard base rails for your Curt fifth-wheel hitch. One thing to keep in mind is that this adapter raises the hitch approximately 3-1/2 inches, so you'll want to verify that your trailer will still tow level.
If you have a fixed (non-sliding) Curt fifth-wheel hitch, another potential option is to replace the legs with the Curt OEM 5th Wheel Hitch Legs for Chevy/GMC Towing Prep Package - 25,000 lbs #CU53FR. This allows the hitch to mount directly into the factory puck system without using an adapter. I would want to confirm exactly what Curt 5th wheel hitch you had before going with this option.
If your truck does not have the OEM prep package, then installing the # C65HR along with the # C16220 is a great solution. The X5 adapter locks into the gooseneck hitch and provides industry-standard base rails for your existing fifth-wheel hitch.
What type of 5th wheel trailer do you have?

Installed on my 2019 Chevy 1 ton. Dropped right into the factory installed goose neck. I’ve had zero issue and no rails to worry about.
