Question:
My truck is a F250 1990, 8’ bed I’m looking to a DZ95 driver’s side toolbox, but want to reverse it and put it on the passenger side forward of the wheel well. This gives me a little more space to load pellet bags. The box will fit and has at least 9” more space if the box overhangs the way it’s intended. There will be a big gap between the toolbox and the front bed wall, but that’s not a problem for me. My question in your expert opinion is there a good reason not to do this type of installation, besides that gap in front of the toolbox? One last comment the dimensions say the box is 20” wide on the Amazon and tractor supply ads on the internet.

Hey Harry!
Since you've confirmed that you have the proper amount of space necessary, you'll be perfectly fine to move the box to the cab side of the wheel well on your 1990 Ford F-250 8' bed. With that, you'll want to make sure you swap sides since it'll be reversing orientation, you'll use a passenger side box, like DeeZee Specialty Series Passenger's-Side Wheel Well Tool Box - Aluminum - 2.2 Cu Ft - Silver # DZ94 or DeeZee Specialty Series Passenger's-Side Wheel Well Tool Box - Aluminum - 2.2 Cu Ft - Black # DZ94B, on your truck bed's driver's side and a driver's side box, like DeeZee Specialty Series Driver's-Side Wheel Well Tool Box - Aluminum - 2.2 Cu Ft - Silver # DZ95 or DeeZee Specialty Series Driver's-Side Wheel Well Tool Box - Aluminum - 2.2 Cu Ft - Black # DZ95B on the passenger side of your bed. Installing them in this orientation will not affect how you're able to access your toolboxes, so you'll still have full access to them.
Those 90s F-250s are still solid trucks. Is this your daily driver or a work truck? What kind of hauling do you do with your truck?

Jerry B, it’s not my daily driver at 11 mpg, but I use it to tow my 27ft sailboat, haul multiple big items, landscaping stuff and whatever is needed. I’ve had a crossover tool box for years, but need to haul my Harley to the shop for upgrades and it couldn’t fit with the crossover box in. I researched and found a new option (DZ95S) that would fit all the stuff I actually need; jack, straps, sway bars, tow rope, and emergency tools. I prefer to keep the rear of the bed clear and planned to install forward of the wheel well. Thanks for your response and taking the time to validate my installation plan. Have a great weekend!
