Will The RV Safe Propane Gas and Carbon Monoxide Detector RS34FR Replace An Atwood 36636?

Updated 06/30/2026 | Published 06/24/2026

Question:

My white Atwood 36636 Propane/Carbon Monoxide detector is at the end of its service life. Is the white RV Safe Alarm RS34FR a direct replacement for the Atwood? Thanks.

Hi Jim!

The RV Safe RV Propane Gas and Carbon Monoxide Detector - 12 Volt - 2 Wire - White # RS34FR will be a perfect replacement for your Atwood 36636. Well, mostly.

It includes several different sized plates (see included picture) to help cover up the hole from your original Atwood, so that part is covered. This is also a 2 wire system instead of the 3 wire the Atwood used. Atwood had two different power sources (battery and fuse board), but the RV Safe would only needs to be tied into the batteries. Most people just cap off the extra power wire that goes to the fuse board when they swap these out.

What are you wanting to install this in?

Hi Lazer S. Thanks for confirming the fit. No problem with the wiring as I'm knowledgeable with 12VDC wiring. I'm installing it on a little T@B 320 Boondock. Jim

@JimM Nice! I was actually talking to a guy last week that installed our drill powered jack on his 320 Boondock. Always thought these were cool little campers, but being 6'5", I doubt I would fit in one very well. Oh well. : P Have fun out there and just let me know if there is anything else I can help with!
