Question:

I was looking at the BandW Tow and Stow with the pintle hook because it looks heavy duty, but I only tow regular trailers with ball couplers. Do I need the pintle version? Or is there a competitor that is better price? I'm new to this. thanks

Hey Mike, if you only tow trailers with standard ball couplers, you probably do not need to pay for a pintle hook setup unless you expect to tow a trailer with a lunette ring later.

The B&W # BW67BR is a great fit when you need that extra pintle hook function, and this is a top of the line hitch setup. It works with 2" and 2-5/16" ball couplers, but it also has a built-in pintle hook for lunette-ring trailers and a higher 16,000 lb rating on the 2-5/16" ball. That’s useful for equipment haulers or commercial-style trailers that actually need that setup.

If your trailers are just standard 2" and 2-5/16" couplers and you have a 2" receiver, the Fastway Flash Force # FA93FR would be the simpler recommendation. It gives you both ball sizes, stows under the hitch, adjusts in 1" increments, and gives you up to 7" of drop or 7-1/2" of rise. Its ratings are 8,000 lbs on the 2" ball and 10,000 lbs on the 2-5/16" ball, so as long as your trailers fall within those numbers, it covers that standard ball-mount use really well. This is still an excellent quality ball mount, better than a lot of entry level ones for sure.
