Best Retractable Bed Cover for a 2020 Ford F150 with a 5.5 Foot Bed
Updated 06/20/2026 | Published 06/17/2026 >
Question:
Hi. I have a 2020 F150 with the 5 1/2 ft. Bed. Im interested in the aluminum roll up bed cover that rolls into the bed. My problem is there are several different ones on your site and I have no idea which is which and best. I currently have the trifold but its very heavy to fold by yourself plus the rubber between the metel is cracking and tearing. Thanks.

Hi Albert, sorry to hear about your current cover! It sounds like a pain in the neck.
Based on what you've described, I think the RetraxPRO XR is your best bet for easy to open and close cover. When you mention wanting a cover that rolls into the bed, I'm assuming you're looking for a retractable cover with a canister at the front of the bed where the cover stores when opened. If that's the case, the RetraxPRO XR, part # RT80373, is one of the easiest covers to live with day to day.
The aluminum slat design glides smoothly on sealed ball bearing rollers, so opening and closing the cover is super easy. Owners of the cover brag about being able to use one hand to open and close it. Instead of lifting and folding large panels, you simply slide the cover where you want it with the handle and lock it in place. I have attached a video that shows how easy it is to operate. The aluminum construction is also much more durable than the vinyl and rubber components found on many folding covers, so you won't have the same cracking issues you've experienced with your current cover.
There are less expensive retractable options available, but if your main goal is getting something that's easy to operate, built to last, and doesn't become a chore every time you need access to the bed, the RetraxPRO XR is the one I would choose for a 2020 F150 with the 5-1/2 foot bed.
What do you typically carry in the bed during a normal week?
