Is the Hitch Tightner for the Hollywood CrossTrack Bike Rack Necessary?

So I just purchased this bike rack and installed it. I like the rack but I dont leave my on all the time. Just use it when me and my wife tale trips some times not far. The Hitch Tightener my last one never had this I have never seen anything like this. Is it really necessary? It has a bolt holding it in. Can you give some in site on this. Thanks

Good question Tim, happy to explain!
The hitch tightener does not have to be installed for the CrossTrack Bike Rack to work properly but I would say it's necessary. The hitch tightener is intended to keep bikes steady and mitigate movement while traveling. So when you have the CrossTrack setup with bikes and you're on the way to your destination, there's not a ton of movement as you travel.
