Can Current Thule Apex Bike Rack Frame Cradles Fit on Older Model Apex

Published 06/10/2026

Question:

Hi. I have an older model Thule hitch rack - the Apex. Purchased in 2018 or 2017. It has the hard basket cradles that dont seat mountain bike frames very well. Ive replaced these twice. Wondering if you have a softer, wider basket cradle that I could replace the hard basket originals and still fit on the bike rack. Doable? Thanks.

Hey Gary, so the current Thule Apex uses a different style of frame cradle that fits the same diameter arm as what your older rack has so you can upgrade to that if you like. It uses zip straps instead of stretch straps too which will make it a little easier to load/unload.

Here are the part numbers you would need:

# 1500056001
# 1500056002
# 1500056003
# 1500056004

Thanks for getting back to me so promptly. Since it gets a bit pricey to replace 8 cradles and straps, and since I have a collection of unused rubber straps, is it possible to use the soft rubber (and wider) cradles from the Vertex on my Apex?

@GaryS Do you mean the part # 7521513002? If so, yes this will also work.
