how do u fasten a surfboard to the rack ? is that part sold separately?

Hey Mark, you would need a surfboard carrier separate from the Malone roof rack part # MPG201 that you referenced like the Lockrack part # LR97VR which would fit the bars and work great to carry a board. This has hardware that clamps around the bars but if you prefer hardware that attaches instead to the top channel you'd want the part # LR59FR. I'd go this route if I were you.
