Question:
I would like to mount the Redarc Tow Pro on the trailer and plug the 7 pin external to tow vehicle. Thus, I would plug the cable into vehicles 7 pin connector and plug the trailer into the brake controller and attached the unit to the trailer instead of doing this all under the vehicle. Is this possible?

Hi Mark,
In theory you could mount the Redarc Tow-Pro Link Bluetooth Brake Controller part # RED57AR onto your trailer, but I wouldn't recommend it. The main unit needs to be mounted to a stable position that doesn't experience a lot of vibration or motion because it will cause the unit to reset itself and recalibrate. Because the unit has active calibration, it learns the position it is mounted in after 15-20 brake applications, which would constantly be recalibrating if the unit had any movement or vibration where it's installed on the trailer. It would also be exposed to rocks and debris on the road that may cause more damage to the unit than if it was installed under the vehicle, sometimes it is even installed behind the spare tire, so the spare tire protects it from road debris. I've included an installation video of our tech installing the Tow-Pro Link where he discusses the requirements for mounting the main unit.
What kind of trailer are you going to be towing while using this brake controller?
