Will etrailer Anti-Rattle Scratch Paint On Hitch

Updated 05/17/2026 | Published 05/15/2026

Question:

I am wondering and concerned, as I’m trying to find an anti-rattle device that will not wear or chipped the paint off my hitch receiver. Will this do that on the receiver? I do not want to have premature rusting or issues with the coating

Hey Rick! Once the etrailer Anti-Rattle # e38FV is secure on the receiver it won't be moving around so it won't scratch up your paint. However, I will say that nothing is ever full proof, and if you're leaving it on permanently it would be a good idea to make sure the screws are nice and secure from time to time.

Hitches in general tend to get scratches from road debris and use over time. If that happens just hit it with something like Rustoleum to keep the rust away.

What will you be pairing with the anti-rattle?

Rick, I have this item and it doesn't chip paint or affect the hitch in any way. In fact, it is a relief to have it and not have to listen to the rattle of the trailer going down the road.
