Platform Bike Rack for 2005 Honda Element that Allows Tailgate to Lower Fully
Updated 07/15/2014 | Published 07/12/2014 >
Question:
Hi there, I have been looking at the HR1400. I am wondering how they fit with the honda element trunk. I have a 2005 Element, which has both a hatchback style top to the trunk as well as a fold-flat tailgate. I know that the HR1400 has the tilt feature which is probably enough to allow for access via the upper element opening, but can the tailgate fold out when the masts are down? Thank you

It's pretty difficult to say sight unseen if the bike rack would interfere with opening the tailgate fully once it's installed.
If you look at the photo I've edited for you, you can see the height of the angled portion of the shank, as well as the distance between the hitch pin hole in the shank and the closest obstruction. If you measure 8-1/2 inches rearward from the hitch pin hole, then 7 inches up, you'll be able to see where the closest part of the rack would sit in relation to the rear of the vehicle.
