Will the 18K Furrion Chill Cube w/ Heat Pump Replace a 13.5k BTU System?

Question:
The Furrion Chill Cube appears to only be available in 18k BTU. Is this model intended to be a one-size-fits-all solution using its variable speed compressor? I currently have a 13.5k BTU system and am worried that the 18k BTU could short cycle and be overkill for my smaller 20ft RV Airstream 20FB. If this unit isn’t recommended, do you know if Furrion will be releasing smaller capacity Chill Cube units in future?

Hey Scott. The Furrion Variable Speed Chill Cube RV Air Conditioner w/ Heat Pump like item # FR97TQ in black or item # FR67TQ in white are only available in 18K btu capacities. The Chill Cube uses variable-speed technology, which allows it to reduce power consumption to 50% or 75%. This lowers it's cooling output so it can be used to replace 13.5K btu systems. They're designed to be used on a dedicated 20 amp circuit breaker. So long as your Airstream's current AC is powered the same way you can replace it with a Chill Cube.
The Furrion Variable Speed Chill Cube RV Air Conditioner w/ Heat Pump like item # FR97TQ in black or item # FR67TQ in white are complete AC systems that include a built in heat pump, along with a air distribution box designed for ducted setups that has built in controls, and a convenient remote.
Furrion has not made any announcements or given out any information on a 13.5k btu Chill Cube system being designed.
Please note that the Furrion Chill Cubes have the new R32 refrigerant in then. They are not compatible with an components that were made before 2024. If you decided to upgrade you will need to replace your air distribution box and thermostat if you currently have one.
What 13.5k BTU system do you currently have? Is it setup for ducted vents or ductless and do you have a thermostat?

Thank you Jerred! I would be upgrading from a ductless Dometic Penguin 13.5k BTU. I would like to tie it into my thermostat or upgrade to the Furrion thermostat. However I’ve read that the ductless air distribution box does not have a secondary harness for thermostat control and can only be used with the included remote, whereas the ducted version does have an additional harness. Does Furrion have a ductless ADB with thermostat control? If not does it look possible for a DIYer to splice in a second control harness?
