Replacement AC System For 2021 Jayco Jay Flight 15,000 BTU With Heat Pump For Cold Weather
Published 05/07/2026 >
Question:
I’m replacing the AC on my 2021 Jayco Jay Flight and I like the idea of getting some heat without using propane. Would the GE Deluxe Plus 15K unit with heat pump actually warm the camper, or is it more like a little heat strip?

Good morning Priya, yes the GE Appliances Deluxe Plus # GE34RR uses a built-in heat pump, so it’s different from a small electric heat strip that just takes the chill off right below the ceiling assembly. This unit is designed as a complete ductless 15,000 Btu heat-and-cool system, so it can cool in hot weather and provide electric heat when the conditions are right.
The key limit is temperature. GE lists the minimum temperature for heat pump operation at 25 degrees F. So it can be a really nice way to save propane on cool mornings or shoulder-season trips when you’re plugged into shore power, but it should not be treated as a full furnace replacement for deep cold camping in the coldest of winters.
For your Jay Flight, the other fitment things to look at would be the roof thickness, which needs to be between 2 inch and 6 inch roof thickness. You also will need and at least 18 inch of rear clearance behind the rooftop unit. Are you currently ductless with ceiling controls, or do you have a wall thermostat and ducts now?
