Hey Mitch! It really depends on the exact trailer and truck. More than likely, installation of the Self-Contained Hydraulic Jack # e33VV won't allow the tailgate to be dropped when you hook up. However, this can be overcome if you use a ball mount with an extended shank.

What kind of trailer do you have?

This is a Great Addition, Works Flawlessly wish I would have Got one sooner, Mine is own a 16,000 lb 7 X 12 ft Dump trailer and worth every penny i spent on it, and yes i can still open my tailgate. It really depends on the Trailer Configuration. Thanks

I bought two of these jacks from E-Trailer one no name and one Lippert about a $500.00 difference with Lippert being the more expensive. Both jacks are exactly the same one name brand and one no name. Within 6 months both jacks the hydraulic motors went bad. I ordered new motors online from db electric, much better motors and know problems yet but a bit annoying the price difference for putting a brand on one. I only purchased the branded one because they were out of stock, I've had the jacks now for one year.
