Solar Controller Recommendation for 600 Watts of Solar Panels

Updated 04/30/2026 | Published 04/27/2026

Question:

I have a new trailer with the Rich Solar 30 Amp PWM controller/charger. Trailer has 400 watts solar panels mounted on the roof plus additional 200 watts of portable solar if needed and 200 ah lithium batteries. Would the Rich Solar 30 Amp MPPT controller/charger be a direct replacement? There is adequate room in the trailer to mount the larger controller.

Hey Matt, so when you are using all of your solar panels you'd be at 50 amps so for a solar controller rated for that the Victron # VN92VR would be what you'd want. This has a lithium charging panel like you'd need as well.

Hello Jameson, Thanks for the response. The Victron model isn't an option for me since the Rick Solar 30 amp PWM is a flush mount controller/charger. I'd rather keep the flush mount option, that's why I was considering the Rich Solar 30 amp MPPT control/charger. Also I don't ever plan on using the additional 200 watt portable solar panels. I will stick only with the 400 watts of solar panels for camping. Thanks, Matt

@MattM right on! Then the part # RS25FR that you referenced would work for you.
