Which Air Conditioning Complete System Including Thermostat Is Good For Smaller Travel Trailer?

Published 04/27/2026

Question:

I’ve got a smaller fifth wheel with a ducted setup, and I’m trying not to overspend if I don’t need to. We camp mostly in the Midwest, and while it gets hot, we’re not really desert campers. If you were recommending one of these ducted Coleman systems for somebody like me, would you still jump straight to a 15K unit? want complete with thermostat please.

Hey Derek, not necessarily. If your fifth wheel is on the smaller side and your old system cooled well enough most of the time, I’d start with the Coleman-Mach Signature Mach 3 # CM83RR. It’s still a complete ducted system with the rooftop unit, ducted air distribution box, and wall thermostat. It still does a great job of cooling most RVs.

I’d only jump to the Signature Mach 15 # CM52RR if your old AC was always behind the curve in summer heat and you already know you need more cooling, not just a fresh system.

And just to make sure you’re in the right group, these are for ducted RV units only. If your AC sends air through ceiling vents across the RV, you’re good. Derek, if you want, send me your fifth wheel model and length and I can tell you whether I’d stay with the Mach 3 or move you up.
