Do New Coleman Mach AC Units For RVs Blow Air Through The Duct Vents?

Question:

One thing I hate about some AC systems is that you don’t really feel cold air right away when you first walk back into the camper. On these Coleman ducted units, does all the air have to go through the ducts, or can they blow directly into the room too? Also, how can I tell if mine is really ducted?

Hey Kevin, these Coleman systems are for ducted RV units only, so the first thing to check is whether your current setup sends air through ceiling ducts and vents throughout the RV. If you’ve got multiple ceiling vents away from the AC opening, that’s usually your answer. If the air just comes straight out of the inside ceiling assembly at the unit and nowhere else, then that would be a ductless setup instead.

Assuming yours is ducted, the nice part is that these Coleman-Mach ducted systems don’t force you into duct-only airflow all the time. The air distribution box has adjustable louvers, so you can get direct airflow into the room or send more of that air through the duct system. That applies whether you’re looking at the Signature Mach 3 # CM83RR, Roughneck Mach 3 # CM95RR, Signature Mach 15 # CM52RR, or Roughneck Mach 15 # CM65RR.

That makes them a lot more usable in the real world, because when you first walk into a hot camper, you usually want immediate relief, not just balanced airflow ten minutes later.
