How to Use Thule Leveling Ramps with Single Axle Dually Tires Safely

Question:
Good morning. On the Thule leveling ramps...for single axle duallies, would you straddle both set of wheels or just place the ramp under one wheel and allow the other wheel to hang? Since the width of the ramps is less than the combined width of the duallies, will any overhang be detrimental to the tire configuration? If so, do I use two ramps for each set of duallies? Thank you!

Good Afternoon Amy! that’s a great question and I’m really glad you asked before trying it.
You do not want to straddle both tires on a single ramp part # TH307617 or let one tire hang off the side. Even though some photos can make it look like that might work, those Thule levelers are designed to support one tire at a time, and any overhang can put uneven stress on the tire and make the setup less stable.
For a single axle dually, the correct way to do it is to use one ramp under each tire so both are fully supported and sharing the load evenly. That gives you a much more secure and predictable setup without risking tire strain or shifting.
There really aren’t true dually-specific levelers that support both tires on one platform, so doubling up like this is the safest and most common approach. Once you’re leveled, you can pair that with standard chocks to keep everything locked in place.

Work great on my 2017 Ram Promaster. But I really bought them because they were not Yellow!...I have them strapped to the bottom outside of my rear doors- the van is Grey so they look pretty cool as well as easy to get to.

I only use these on single front wheels for leveling my Class C. For rears, I use the double wide Camco blocks and ramp up to full height as necessary. I usually put rubber stall mat pieces under both front and rear wheel leveling blocks or ramps to keep them from slipping and also extends useful life (less damage from rocks and uneven ground).

I bought a pair of these recently and they work great on my dually Class B RV (4 tires in rear and 2 in front). I find one set, plus a single leveler I kept from before, is enough for me. As the other reply said, if I need one set of rear tires to be raised, I use both levelers under the tires on that side (one leveler per tire). If I need one or both front tires raised, I use the levelers there. If it's uneven side-to-side, I use the Thule levelers in the back and the single older leveler in the front. The only case where this might not work is if the entire rear end needs raised. I've not run into this yet (and have had the RV for 3 years, and just went on a 4-month trip to a lot of places), but if I do, I can use the Thule levelers on one side, then on the other side use the single leveler plus a couple 2x10 boards (about 1.5' long) that I also keep handy, so all tires will be supported. Yes, I could have bought 2 sets of the Thule levelers, but I have very limited storage space. If I had a larger "leveler bin", I'd buy another set and get rid of the single leveler and the boards. The Thule levelers themselves are very nicely made, and wider than many other brands I've found, many of which are narrower than the tires. So I'm quite happy with them.
