Hi Adam,

That’s a great question, and you’re right to pause on it because this is one of those details that can make or break how everything works together.

For most retractable covers, including many Pace Edwards options, the “not compatible with powered tailgates” note is accurate. The way those covers seal at the tailgate and how the rails sit can interfere with the power release, either preventing the tailgate from dropping cleanly or causing it to bounce back instead of opening smoothly.

The RetraxPRO series has been confirmed to work with powered tailgates, so you’re not completely boxed out of that style. For example, part # RTX82XR is a confirmed fit for a 5-1/2 foot bed with RamBox, part # RT80243 works if you do not have RamBox, and part # RT60245 fits the longer bed. Those models are designed in a way that avoids interfering with the tailgate’s operation. I know our tech tips say does not fit with powered tailgate but I was able to confirm with Retrax that they do. There is currently not a Pace Edwards option that fits.

So while most options will give you trouble, there are a few that are known to play nicely and won’t cause the tailgate to fight you every time you use it.

Just to make sure we get you into the right one the first time, what is your bed size, do you have a rambox?
