What Setting Should I Use on the PowerMax AC to DC Converter PM34VR for a Trolling Motor?

Updated 04/08/2026 | Published 04/07/2026

Question:

I would like to power my electric trolling motor from an A/C portable power supply. What setting on your converter would deliver steady D/C power to my trolling motor? Also, I’ll have this in a protective plastic box. Does the box need to be vented?

Hey Mark. The PowerMax AC to DC Converter item # PM34VR should be set to the Fixed Output Mode to power your boat's trolling motor. You'll need to move the rear switch to Fixed Voltage. This prevents high-voltage fluctuations.

You will definitely need to install the PowerMax AC to DC Converter item # PM34VR in a vented box. It needs a minimum of 1" spacing around the entire converter to prevent overheating.

What kind of boat do you have?

The boat is a Dave Scadden backslash pro guide, inflatable. Thanks for your advice!
