What MORryde GooseTech Should I Get for My Toy Hauler that is Fully Loaded 16k?

Updated 04/13/2026 | Published 04/07/2026

Question:

I have a XLR NITRO 28DK5 toy hauler that empty, weighs less than 10k. Fully loaded stuffed claims to be 16k. Which size would you recommend? Under 11.5k, 11.5k to 14k, or 14k to 18k for my trailer? I worry the heavier duty rating rubber would defeat the purpose of dampening for when the trailer isnt fully loaded.

Hello Dallas,

Thanks for writing in, that’s a great question.

The 14K to 18K GooseTech like the # MR84MV is the right choice for your setup because it matches how your toy hauler actually runs when it’s loaded, not just empty. With a 28DK5, it’s very easy to get up into that mid to upper weight range once you add water, gear, and toys, so you want the rubber system working right in that sweet spot. That’s what gives you a controlled, cushioned ride and really helps reduce chucking instead of just carrying the load.

I completely understand the concern about going too stiff and ending up with a harsh ride when you’re lighter. In real-world use, that’s not how these feel. The rubber spring in the GooseTech is progressive, so even when you’re not fully loaded it still flexes and absorbs road shock. You won’t get a rigid or jarring ride empty, just a slightly firmer feel than when it’s fully loaded. That’s a much better situation than going too light and having it over-compress when loaded, which is what actually leads to harsher feedback and more stress on the trailer.

For sizing, this model also lines up well with typical pin weights you’ll see on a toy hauler like yours when loaded, so it keeps everything working in the proper range and gives you that smoother, more confident towing experience whether you’re loaded down or heading out a bit lighter.

Don’t forget to grab a MORryde 3/8" Safety Chain for GooseTech with Clevis Hooks - 87" Long - 26K # MR23MV so you’re fully set up.

You asked the question on the Rhino version, can you please confirm that is your pin box? There should be a sticker on the pin box itself with the model number so we can be 100% sure on fitment.

What kind of toys or weight are you typically loading in the 28DK5 when you head out?
