Will Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE HLY87RR Work For Recumbent Trike?
Updated 04/09/2026 | Published 04/02/2026 >
Question:
I have a 3 wheel recumbent Ebike with 20inch wheels that sits really low. Im wondering if the trikes wheels will sit in the holders without my bike frame hitting the bike rack.

Hey Dick, thanks for reaching out. The Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE Bike Rack # HLY87RR should work for a recumbent trike. That rack is designed for recumbent trikes, and it does have adjustable wheel hoops plus an adapter specifically meant to help with smaller front wheels.
Where you can run into issues is exactly what you’re thinking, how low the frame sits between those wheels. The trays themselves sit up off the rack a bit, and if your trike has a really low cross member or seat frame, there’s a chance it could get close to or contact parts of the rack when it’s sitting in the hoops. The rack does give you some adjustability front-to-back and side-to-side to help with clearance. It also has adjustable wheel loops so you could potentially move those in and the wheels wouldn't drop as far down, but those super low-slung trikes are where it becomes a case-by-case fit. I wish I could give you a firm yes or no answer here, but the only way to truly know would be to test it out and see. Most standard recumbent trikes fit these without issue, but the really low ones are the wildcard.
What bike do you have specifically? If I can look up a picture, I might be able to give you a bit more specific of an answer.

My Trike sits up a little higher than yours (it sounds like), but still doesn't sink in that low on our unit. Without seeing it, it's hard to say for sure, but I would think it would be fine. We love our bikje racks btw!

The rack will hold a recumbent trike. My wife has the cattrike villager and it works perfectly. It comes with a wheel spacer for smaller tires. With them installed the 20” wheels fit just right. With the adjustability it should work fine for a longer recumbent if needed.

My trike was hand fabricated by a bike builder in West Branch in 2006. It was patterned of of cat trikes. I'll send you a picture tomorrow. Thanx.
