How to Raise the Ride Height of a Utility Trailer w/ Axles Above the Leaf Springs

Updated 04/06/2026 | Published 04/01/2026

Question:

I was wandering if anyone sells arched leaf springs for utility trailers ? My utility trailer has the springs under the axles. . I was wandering if anyone makes springs that will give it some lift, to raise it higher ? I figured they make lift kit springs before older jeeps, y not a utility trailer ? I was going to do a spring over swap, but its a lot of work. I figured if I change out the springs to ones that would lift it higher, that would be what I want.

Hey Brian. There's no way to swap out leaf springs that would add height to your trailer because of how your axles are orientated. The only way to gain any amount of height with just leaf springs is to get ones with thicker spring packs. Seeing as how your axles are mounted above your leaf springs that would actually make your height issues worse.

To raise your utility trailer's height, the only solution is to use an axle flip kit and move your axles below the leaf springs. As far as labor doing this is pretty comparable to swapping out leaf springs plus you don't have to undue and replace all the suspension bolts.

There's two options depending on how thick your axles are. These kits are sold per axle so you will need two. I have listed the options below:

3" Axle - Dexter Trailer Springs Over-Under Conversion Kit item # K71-385-00

2-3/8" Axle - Dexter Trailer Springs Over-Under Conversion Kit item # K71-384-00

What has you wanting to lift your trailer and how much height are you looking to add?
